Story
of Hidden Treasure
One fine morning,
a wise man walked by a poor man sitting on the roadside. The
poor man stretched out his hand, and asked for assistance.
The passerby lamented:
"Oh, I have no money to give you."
"But, what is in that
box that you are sitting on?" he asked the poor man.
"Nothing that I know of;
I have been sitting on it for 30 years; I never looked inside
it;" replied the poor man.
The man insisted: "Do
get up, open that box, and see what's in it."
The poor man complied.
"Oh, my God!" he exclaimed.
Guess what he found
the box was full of gold a treasure
that he never knew he had! The poor man was flabbergasted
with the riches he never knew he had and were hidden from him.
The
Metaphor and the Moral of the Story
Would you believe you might
be sitting on your own treasure box that you are unaware of?
How would you know, you
ask?
What about those blind
spots that elude your perspective?
What about certain talents
that you consciously never knew you had, but show up in unusual
ways?
What about those occasional
experiences of a blocked sense of direction — you feel
stuck or in a grind?
How would you recognize
and harness your treasure?
Well, first by being
willing to admit there's more to life than meets the eye —
there's more to truth than the reality we perceive;
by opening your mind
and your heart to someone's feedback;
by seeking, receiving
and accepting catalytic support; and
by taking full responsibility
for your thoughts, actions and outcomes.
Your treasure would be
revealed indeed!
People — you and
those you associate with — typically have what it takes
to handle their tasks, deliver the results, and more.
How come we have problems?
How come we fall short
of our goals and dreams?
How come we feel stuck?
And, what's the remedy?
Well, uncover your hidden
treaure. A mentor can help — act as a catalyst to get
you unstuck, move forward, get going, and win.
If you feel you are defocused
or side-tracked, miss the obvious, get blind-sided, or lose
a sense of direction — and it happens to the best of us
— it's a case of not knowing you are sitting on your hidden
treasure.
How can a Mentor help?
If you ever lament:
"Oh, business is suffering;
revenues are down;
margins are lower;
cash flow is tight;
customers aren't buying
what they used to;
competition is killing
us;
I don't know what to
do;"
it isn't that you don't
have the answers; it's that you don't have questions.
And, that is where a Mentor
can assist — ask probing questions; uncover possibilities
within you; shed light on gaps; and empower you to tap your
dormant resources.
